A Dietitian Who Gets It — Because She Flies Too.

Kylie Viens brings something no other dietitian can offer: the perspective of someone who has sat in the left seat, balanced demanding work with flight training, and lived alongside an international cargo pilot.

My Path

From Clinic to Cockpit — and Everything In Between

2016-2017 — THE FOUNDATION

From Dietitian to Clinical Practice

After becoming a Registered Dietitian in 2016, I began working in primary care in 2017, where I spent nearly eight years helping patients manage diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, and weight-related concerns.

These are the same health markers that directly impact a pilot’s ability to maintain their FAA medical.

2020 — DEEPENING EXPERTISE

Advanced Education and Diabetes Certification

While continuing my work in primary care, I earned my Master’s degree in Nutrition & Dietetics and became a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES).

These advanced trainings allow me to confidently interpret research and help you prevent or manage chronic conditions — without the confusion.

THE SHIFT

Flight Training Changed Everything

While working full-time in clinic and raising a toddler, I began training for my private pilot certificate — often heading straight from patient care to flight lessons.

Experiencing the mental demands, fatigue, and logistics firsthand gave me a clear understanding of what aviation actually requires: consistency, focus, and performance under pressure.

THE REALITY CHECK

Aviation Life Isn’t Built for “Perfect” Nutrition

At the same time, I continue to live alongside an international cargo pilot, which has given me an inside look at the realities of aviation:

  • Long duty days
  • Irregular meals
  • Time zone changes
  • Limited access to consistent, healthy food

I saw the problem clearly — maintaining health in this environment isn’t about knowing what to do… it’s about having a strategy that actually fits the job.

THE GAP

A Missing Piece in Aviation Health

Aviation professionals are expected to maintain a high level of health and performance — but very few nutrition resources are built around the realities of this lifestyle.

TODAY

Fly Fit Nutrition

I created Fly Fit Nutrition for aviation professionals who are tired of trying to make “normal” nutrition advice work for an abnormal schedule.

I help you improve blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, and weight — with strategies designed for long days, travel, and real-life flying demands.

  • No rigid plans.
  • No unrealistic expectations.
  • Just a practical, sustainable approach that helps you stay consistent, protect your FAA medical, and stay in the air long-term.

ATHLETE TURNED DIETITIAn

A Lifetime of Fueling Performance

Before becoming a dietitian, I competed in collegiate basketball at UAA and spent a season playing semi-professionally in Australia—experiences that shaped my understanding of discipline, resilience, and how to fuel the body for performance.

Today, that same mindset carries into everything I do. I’ve completed multiple marathons and half marathons and continue to stay active while raising two kids and navigating life in Alaska—because I believe taking care of your health has to work in the real world, not just in theory.
